This blog was inspired by an article in InStyle magazine by Burberry’s Christopher Bailey. He is the cool chief creative officer credited with transforming the historic heritage brand from classic to fantastic. Since you are your brand, I’m going to share his 6 secrets to personal style to help you go from classic to fantastic and I invite you to explore each area as they relate to you and your brand:
1. Trust your own instincts
It’s so easy to get distracted by what other people think, do, or say. But they don’t live your life. You need to know what you want and who you are, and you have to convey it to others quickly so that you shine at first impression. You may not have a second chance.
2. Find a color that sets you aglow
Wearing color can be gimmicky-you don’t want to look like a tangerine walking down the street. Color should be sophisticated, making your eyes sparkle and your skin tone warmer. Balance the boldest choices with a neutral so you never appear overwhelmed.
3. Dressing isn’t about perfection
This is such an English point of view, but I love things that are beautifully crafted yet slightly askew. When it comes to dressing, I don’t want everything to match or be from the same designer. Something in your mix should knock even your best look off a pedestal…We’ll see you shining through-not just your outfit.
4. Sexy doesn’t have to scream
It can be triggered by surprise or contradiction… The idea is essentially “sugar and spice makes everything nice.”
5. Follow the 70-30 rule
…remember this equation: 70% should be driven by practicality, and 30% by frivolity and fun.
6. Use technology to try something new
Luxury is no longer about exclusivity; shopping online invites everyone in. It might also give you the guts to try that one strong piece, like a studded jacket or a bright coat that will ignite your wardrobe so you see yourself in a whole new light.
Since your brand starts with and continues with confidence; you can slowly but surely build your confidence by learning to trust your instincts and then by following the other 5 tips to become brand fantastic!
