Putting at least as much effort to developing our ‘Inner Brand’ as we do our ‘Outer Brand’ is key to what I describe as having Brand Integrity. In fact, given the world we live in, it’s our ‘Inner Brand’ that will give more meaning to our lives, and to the lives of others.
Integrity is a concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes. In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one’s actions. Integrity can be regarded as the opposite of hypocrisy,in that it regards internal consistency as a virtue, and suggests that parties holding apparently conflicting values should account for the discrepancy or alter their beliefs. ~Wikipedia
Over time, I have discovered that who we are on the inside — passions, personal integrity, what we stand for, etc. — deeply affects who we are on the outside. From personal experience, I understand that if your inner does not match your outer, you will have issues (personal & business) – and the bigger that gap is, the bigger the issues are.
This is why I stress getting to know who you really are; not who you want to be or who you’ll be once you have blank. The sooner you can figure out your ‘Inner Brand’, the sooner you will be able to communicate your ‘Outer Brand.’ Internally, you won’t be conflicted and externally, you won’t confuse others. Having a Personal Brand we are proud of as it relates to who we are on the inside is pivotal to our self esteem, levels of confidence and a strong brand reputation.
Once our ‘Inner Brand’ is solid, and truly represents our authentic self, it will never go out of style. Having and projecting authentically the kind of ‘Inner Brand’ that enables us to be our best selves — which includes demonstrating enough substance so that others look up to us and seek our advice — is a deep, worthy aspiration.
