When we don’t behave as the person we believe ourselves to be, we will feel “off” or “out of sorts” and often, frustrated or angry, but can’t figure out why. For example, If we think we are a lion, but we act as a mouse, we will secretly loathe ourselves.
Congruency is one of the most profoundly powerful drives we have as humans and this was confirmed to me last month, after reading The Charge: Activating the 10 Human Drives That Make You Feel Alive by Brendon Burchard.
Brendon states that the only way to measurably improve the quality of your life is to learn how to activate the very 10 drives that make you most human. Congruency, the 4th drive, is when your inside world matches your outside world…and life is really good!
Want to create a congruent self-image?
Since many of you have told me that you enjoy my exercises… here is a simple, yet powerful exercise I designed to help you become congruent and strengthen your brand from the inside out!
The first goal is to define the actual self and the ideal self, and the second goal is to bridge the gap from point A to B:
1/ Define point A — How are you known?
2/ Define point B — How do you want to be known?
3/ What is the barrier and missing pieces between point A & B?
4/ Think about how you will feel when you get to point B and why that will make you happy.
5/ What will you do each day to knock down the barrier and fill in the missing pieces?
Abraham Maslow so wisely said:
“If you plan on being anything less than you are capable of being, you will probably be unhappy all the days of your life.”
Branding is one of the single most important things you’ll ever do in a lifetime because it helps you operate at your full potential and live a happy life.
