Have a brand. Shine the light on your brand by embracing curiosity.

Knowing who you are is the foundation for all successful brands and asking questions leads the way to a winning brand.  Diane Sawyer, the queen of questions, on ‘Master Class’ (new series on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network) talks more about curiosity: 

“I think you can awaken curiosity, I don’t think you can teach it.  It’s almost in some ways a physical event.  It’s the thing that pushes you forward.  I’m not a master, but I’m absolutely filled with excitement to learn who we really are.”

“I honestly believe you need people who reinforce your best self.  When you stay inside of who you are, you won’t be able to live every day in purpose and joy.  You’ll also be able to look back and say, Oh, I see…I see why that is good.”

My favorite part was when Diane points out that she cannot be defined as they show her jumping on a trampoline and then interviewing Saddam Hussein.  And I loved when she points out: “A criticism is a really bad way of asking for a request.”

Clearly her love of curiosity and learning things infuses all of her work.  Her real gift is not just to have people tell their stories; it is being able to infuse your own curiosity into a story to a point that makes it their own.  “It is not a philosophy, just an energy.  Once you input your philosophy into the story, you’ve limited things.”

What is new today is our ideas. 

Ideas make things happen. 

“Nothing and I mean nothing is ever worth waking up and saying I’m not the person I wanted to be.”  Her father gave her the most beautiful, simple checklist for what you should do in life (in case you haven’t figured it out yet):

  1. Do something that you really love.
  2. Do it in the most adventurous place you can.
  3. Make sure that it helps other people.

If you feel there is a genuine need for it, and that through that need you can help other people, then you are home.

Find and shine your light today.  Things are possible by embracing curiosity.
